Most people want the victory, but few people want the training that comes before it. We all want to defeat the giant, but we do not always appreciate the process God uses to prepare us for the battle. Yet throughout Scripture, God consistently develops people in private before He uses them in public.

David is a perfect example. Before he ever stood before Goliath, he spent years tending sheep. It was there that he faced a lion and a bear. Those moments may have seemed insignificant at the time, but God was preparing him for something greater. The lion and the bear were not interruptions to David's purpose. They were part of his preparation.

Many times, people become frustrated with difficult seasons because they do not understand what God is doing. They want the next level, but they resist the process that leads there. Yet God knows what lies ahead. He knows the challenges, opportunities, and responsibilities that are coming. That is why preparation is so important. God often develops us in places where nobody is watching so we will be ready when greater opportunities arrive.

When David stood before Saul, he did not talk about his own ability. He talked about God's faithfulness. He said, "The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine" (1 Samuel 17:37). David understood something that every believer must learn: confidence is not built by focusing on the size of the problem. Confidence is built by remembering the faithfulness of God.

That is why it is important to remember previous victories. Faith remembers. Faith looks back and says, "God brought me through before, and He will bring me through again." The same God who opened doors in the past, provided in the past, healed in the past, and made a way in the past is still faithful today.

Another lesson from David's life is that he refused Saul's armor. What worked for Saul was not what God had prepared David to use. Too many people spend their lives comparing themselves to others or trying to imitate someone else's calling. But God has equipped each person differently. Victory comes when we learn to trust what God has placed in our hands rather than wishing we had what someone else has.

Paul expressed a similar truth in Philippians 4:13 when he said, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." His confidence was not in favorable circumstances. His confidence was in Christ. The ultimate warrior is not the person who never faces opposition. It is the person who trusts God regardless of the circumstances.

God has already given believers everything they need to overcome. He has given us His Word, His Spirit, the name of Jesus, and the armor of God. The question is not whether God has provided what we need. The question is whether we will trust what He has provided.

The battles of life will come, but believers do not face them alone. God is preparing us, strengthening us, and teaching us through every season. If we will trust the training and trust the One who is training us, we can face every challenge with confidence, knowing that God is preparing us for victory.
