Life will always have challenges. There will always be another obstacle, another battle, another situation that tries to hinder our progress. We never outgrow warfare. We simply learn how to fight. The good news is that God has not left His people defenseless. He has equipped us with everything we need to overcome.
In Ephesians 6, the Message translation says, "God is strong, and He wants you strong." It goes on to say that He has provided "well-made weapons of the best materials" so that believers can stand against everything the enemy throws their way. God has not given us weak weapons. He has given us weapons that work.
The challenge is not whether God has equipped us. The challenge is whether we know how to use what He has given us.
When sickness comes, there is a weapon. When fear comes, there is a weapon. When lack comes, there is a weapon. When discouragement comes, there is a weapon. God has provided truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, prayer, and His Word. These are not simply Christian ideas. They are spiritual weapons designed to help believers stand firm in the middle of life's battles.
One of the greatest mistakes people make is allowing circumstances to determine their response. If everything is going well, they praise God. If things become difficult, they become fearful, discouraged, or overwhelmed. But faith responds differently. Faith reaches for the Word. Faith exercises authority. Faith remembers that "No weapon formed against you shall prosper" (Isaiah 54:17) and that "greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4).
The Apostle Paul wrote, "Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God" (2 Corinthians 10:3-4). Believers do not fight battles the same way the world does. The world depends entirely on natural solutions, natural reasoning, and human wisdom. But God has given His people access to something greater. Through faith, prayer, the Word of God, and the leading of the Holy Spirit, believers can approach life's challenges from a position of strength.
Acts 14 gives a powerful example of this truth. The Bible tells of a man who had never walked a day in his life. As he listened to Paul preach, faith rose in his heart. Paul perceived that he had faith to be healed and commanded him to stand. The man leaped to his feet and walked. The situation changed because spiritual weapons were put to work. The Word was preached. Faith came. Authority was exercised. The result was victory.
God has already provided what we need to overcome. His Word is a weapon. Faith is a weapon. Prayer is a weapon. The name of Jesus is a weapon. Praise and worship are weapons. Even the mind of Christ is a weapon when circumstances try to overwhelm our thinking.
Battles will come, but believers can face them with confidence. We do not fight alone, and we do not fight empty-handed. God has equipped us for every challenge we will ever face. The question is not whether we have weapons. The question is whether we will use them.
